What is Local Content?

In South Africa, Government Departments and State-owned Enterprises have different Local Content (LC) mandates in terms of their specific procurement programs. A few examples of the current LC requirements from Departments & SOE’s include:

Benefits

Short Term: The direct and indirect creation of jobs, as well as skills transfer through successful business management within new industries. The proliferation and creation of opportunities for our export industries.

Long Term: Driving our move towards industrialization. This ties in with the short term job creation benefits, but also has positive long term social and financial implications such as: decreasing our country's crime rate and increasing the PAYE, VAT and Business Tax bases. The improvement and stability of our exchange rate.
